Meet the 2021 WakerSpace Faculty Fellows
Qiaona Yu
Assistant Professor of Chinese
received the WakerSpace Fellow grant to introduce 3D character learning in her CHI 101 First-Year Chinese (I). The introduction of 3D technology aims to not only incorporate haptic information cues that complement and interact with visual information in students' radical awareness development, but also add exciting possibilities for new classroom instructional design.
Ali Sakkal
Associate Teaching Professor
received the WakerSpace Fellow grant to show students connected elements of cognitive psychology, experiential learning, and how we learn as they utilized the WakerSpace's tools to reimagine the learning spaces of the future.
Elizabeth Clendinning
Associate Professor of Music
is using her WakerSpace Fellow grant to build musical instruments, African mbira and Trinidadian tamboo bamboo, with students in MUS 109 Music of World Cultures. Students will learn about social values, tuning systems, traditional and contemporary construction skills, and considerations of environmental sustainability associated with the instruments, and will play the instruments that they have built.
