Little Green Dress: Exploring Our Attire's Impact on the Environment
The proposed FY was approved by the FYS committee and two sections will be held at WakerSpace in Spring 2022. This seminar explores the impact of the clothing industry on our world by examining its environmental and societal impacts. We will explore issues that include natural and synthetic fiber production, post-consumer recycling options, toxicity of dyes, employment conditions for textile workers, societal expectations While students delve deeply into these topics by reading and discussing, they will also practice and then share fiber arts techniques that they feel can address some of the identified issues with the modern clothing industry. The semester will culminate with a student fashion show where the runway showcases sustainability and student learning.
